Overview

Business Administration is the process of managing a business or organization successfully. This 92-credit program covers general curricula in business management administration, accounting, and tourism. Fundamental computer applications classes are also included. Upon completion of this program, students can be employed in a variety positions in the fields that incorporate a wide range business skills.

Business Administration Prospects

  • Executive secretaries and executive administrative assistants provide high-level administrative support for an office and for top executives of an organization. They often handle more complex responsibilities, such as reviewing incoming documents, conducting research, and preparing reports. Some also supervise clerical staff.
  • Overall employment of secretaries and administrative assistants which can be the entry level of Columbia College graduates is projected to grow 12 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Employment growth, however, will vary by occupational specialty such as accounting, tourism, and etc.
  • Also, employment of general secretaries is projected to grow 13 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Many secretarial and administrative duties are of a personal, interactive nature. Because technology cannot substitute for interpersonal skills, secretaries and administrative assistants will continue to play a role in most organizations.

Instructor Natasha Thomas joins Columbia College as a Business Instructor in the Business management administration program. Prior to coming to Columbia College, she was a Business Instructor at Career Technical Institute in the medical office professional program. Natasha received her B.A. in Business Administration and MBA from Strayer University.  Natasha is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in General business management at Capella University.  Natasha’s teaching interests include operations management, marketing management, leadership and organizational behavior and business management theories. She has assisted with redesigning and redeveloping courses as a Business instructor at Columbia College and Career Technical Institute.  Her primary research interests are in the field of business general management and leader-member exchange theory. Specifically, she is interested in researching Leadership communication methods concerning millennial employee relationship development in colleges in the United States.

Dr. Amy Hymes is an exceptional professional who is specialized in the field of Business Human Resource Management and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. On top of her academic accomplishments, Dr. Hymes holds certifications in multiple areas such as Conflict Resolution, Workplace Mediation, Anger Resolution Therapist, and Life Coach. She has been serving as a HR Management Specialist for over 20years, being accountable for strategic HR planning including workforce planning, policy development, compensation and benefits administration, staffing & recruitment and organizational development. She started her professional teaching in 2008 at Strayer University where she taught Business HR Management courses and she continued her teaching career at Columbia College since 2013 to present.
