      Registration Period:  Session A: February 22, 2010 ~ March 02, 2010

                                        Session B: March 29, 2010 ~ April 06, 2010          

            Students must register and pay full tuition within the registration period, otherwise, a late fee of $40.00 will be charged after 2 weeks of payment due date.

v  Students must register for a program within the registration period. Textbooks, materials and other learning supplies are available at the Admissions Office. Students who do not have textbooks cannot attend the class.

1.      Federal Student Aid, Now Available Up to 100%

Federal Student Aid is awarded to U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen students who wish to enroll in ESL and other degree programs.  

Eligible students who wish to be employed or move onto higher education after the completion of the ESL program could also apply and receive financial aid.

Students who wish to apply for Federal Student Aid can obtain more information from the Admissions Office or the Financial Aid Department, and apply on-line using the Columbia College school code.  

Financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need.  Depending on the students financial income, student can receive financial aid that cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, housing, meals, and personal expenses in the form of grant or low interest loans until the completion of study.

2.    Main Campus Expansion

Admissions and Business Office will move to second floor on March. Please visit new office to pay tuition or to consult.

3.    TOEFL Center Open!

The TOEFL Testing Center is operating in the main campus. The tests will be held mostly on Friday and Saturday mornings. Please contact the main campus ESL Department for future information. Please make reservations in advance by visiting the website www.ets.org.

ESL Department

1.      Campus Regulations

a.       Students must have their textbooks ready for class. If not, they can be dismissed from the class.

b.      Students must come to class on time.

c.       In case of emergency, students must follow directions of the school authority.

d.      Students should not use cell phones during class hour.

e.       No food or drink is allowed in class.

f.       Do not operate the fire alarm system except for fire or in case of emergent situation.

2.      New Student Requirements

1)      Take the Accuplacer test.

2)      Attend the new student orientation.

3)      Receive the Student ID and Parking Permit from the Admissions Office.

4)      Complete and sign the required documents.

5)      Prepare the required textbooks which are necessary for each class.

2.  General Education Course

                  - Critical Thinking (4 credits, Thursday, 9am-1pm)

                  - Introduction to Psychology (4 credits, Tuesday, 6-10pm)

We encourage ESL Students to enroll in these courses. The cost is $600. If you take this course together with ESL courses, the cost will be $1,450. The class meets 3 times a week (1 day of GE class and 2 days of ESL classes). ESL level 301/302 students are qualified to take the course, and the ESL level 202/300 students need to take the Accuplacer test and get a minimum of 301 points to take the academic course.

4.   Certificate Programs

Dental Lab Technology, CNA, Culinary Arts of Sushi, Massage Therapy and Cosmetology start on March 08, 2010.

  1. Job Placement for Graduates

Students who complete programs successfully are well prepared to find jobs related to their field of study. While it is impossible to guarantee that each student will find employment in their chosen field at any given time, Columbia College will work with each student to help him/her find satisfactory employment.     

      

 

International Student Office

1.      Attendance & Evaluation

Notice: SEVIS and USCIS are actively investigating language schools in the area. The illegally operated schools will be under investigation. It’s the student responsibility to keep their legal status.

v  Absences are excused only in case of illness or other serious medical conditions. Students must bring Doctor’s letter to the Registrar.

v  Students must have a minimum of 80% attendance in order to complete the course successfully.

v  If the students’ absence rate exceeds 20%, the school will issue a warning letter and report the student to USCIS according to the school regulation.

v  If a student has more than 20% absence, he/she must make up missed classes through make up classes.

2.      Vacation

According to USCIS regulations, students are eligible to take a 10-week vacation after 30-week class period. Students with special cases will be allowed to take a 5-week vacation after 15-week class period. Students must fill out the Vacation Request Form at the admissions office and deposit the following session tuition.

Nonimmigrant visa holding students who have excessive absences during the 30-week period will not be eligible for a 10-week vacation.

3.      International Student Services

To help our international students adjust to their academic life in the United States, our CC staffs are willing to assist them with every step of studying aboard. To meet the USCIS regulations, international students must do the followings

    • Bring all USCIS letters and notices to the International Student Services.
    • Submit a copy of visa and I-20 to the International Student Services.
    • Report his/her change of address within 10 days to the International Student Services. To report the address change to USCIS, students can access www.uscis.gov/AR-11 and fill out the form AR-11 online.
    • I-20 Extension: Students who need to extend his/her I-20 have to fill out the I-20 extension form at the admissions office before their I-20 expires.

4.      School Transfer

Newly admitted International students with his/her first I-20 issued from Columbia College must complete at least 3 sessions (30 weeks) at Columbia College to qualify for transferring out to another school.

Students with an excessive absence record cannot transfer in active status. Students who either dropped out of classes or missed more than 20% of classes may be terminated and should submit a request for reinstatement to USCIS at the institution they wish to transfer. Students must notify the school their intention of transfer at least 5 weeks before the program end date. Students who just returned from vacation must complete at least one session (10 weeks) at Columbia College before transferring to other schools.

 Any students who enroll during the academic term are eligible to apply for school housing. Students who would like to get the housing can 1) bring his/her family, 2) be a roommate Roommates should be same gender unless they are family members. Students can be assigned in one-bedroom, two-bedroom, or three-bedroom apartment unit, depending on the number of people and availability. Maximum number of people is two (2) for a one-bedroom, four (4) for a two-bedroom and six (6) for a three-bedroom apartment. Student’s preference, such as number of bedrooms for his/her family and sharing bedroom with others, can be considered but not guaranteed.

            Minimum length of housing contract is 3 sessions (30 weeks) and students cannot terminate the contract within this period. If the student needs to move out due to invincible reason, he/she has to find other students who can fill the remaining period of the contract. If the student wants to move out after 30 weeks, he/she has to notify the school office his/her intention to move out at least 5 weeks prior to the last date of his/her residency. Security deposit will be forfeited if the student does not meet the school housing regulation. Student can stay in school housing units during the vacation period if 10-week tuition deposit is paid.

            Before filling out the school housing application, students need to bring in 1) his/her I.D. (driver’s license, passport) and 2) income statement. If students do not have an income source in the U.S., he/she can bring in a bank statement showing sufficient funds.

2.      Main Campus Parking

§  Columbia College parking lot must be used for student’s vehicles only.

§  Students must hang their CC parking permit on the rear-view mirror. Vehicles without parking permits may be towed at the owners’ expense.

§  School’s front parking lot is for visitors only.

§  Columbia College is not responsible for any towed vehicles.

3.      School Gift Certificate

For the purpose of motivating and encouraging students’ academic achievement, Columbia College will issue the Gift Certificate as follows:

§  Students with outstanding academic achievement with 100% attendance will receive a $100 gift certificate.

§  New student referral benefits: If a currently enrolled student recruits a new student to Columbia College, he/she should notify the school official to receive a gift certificate.

b.      To request the official transcript, enrollment letter, and other documents, students must fill out the document request form at the admissions office. It usually takes 2~3 business days for documents and 5 business days for transcripts.
