Cosmetology

The Cosmetology Program prepares students for careers in hair design, nail artistry, and facial makeup. Through a combination of theory and 80% hands-on training, students develop essential techniques while exploring current industry trends and innovations. Whether building foundational skills or refining advanced techniques, this program equips students with the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in today's beauty industry.

As more people seek professional services for hair, skin, and nail care, the beauty and personal care industry continues to see high demand. This trend creates steady job opportunities for licensed cosmetologists. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment in this field to grow 19% from 2020 to 2030. There is also a wide range of career paths, including hairstylists, makeup artists, and nail technicians. While starting wages at the entry level are competitive, many licensed professionals go on to start their own businesses or freelance, significantly increasing their earning potential through self-employment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2023), about 89,100 openings for barbers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Employment is projected to grow 17% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations. Columbia College is dedicated to helping students gain the skills needed to achieve their goals. To further support their success, we provide thorough preparation for the Cosmetology State Board Examinations, administered by the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC). This ensures graduates can step into the exam room with confidence.
