Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology

The Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology program provides students with comprehensive instruction in computer systems, programming, networking, and related business technologies. The curriculum is designed to align with industry standards and prepare students for a variety of IT careers. Students gain hands-on experience in areas such as programming, web development, operating systems, and network administration. Upon graduation, students are prepared for entry-level positions such as computer technicians, programmers, or IT support specialists in a range of business and technology settings.

As technology continues to reshape every industry, the need for IT support in non-technology sectors continues to expand. This trend ensures a steady stream of job opportunities. Many entry-level IT positions require only an associate degree, offering a clear path into the industry. Graduating with a degree in Information Technology from Columbia College opens a world of career opportunities in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of computer support specialists is projected to grow 11% from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. As organizations continue upgrading to increasingly complex computer systems and software, support services will remain in demand to meet installation and repair needs.
