This process is for students who wish to transfer to Columbia College from another U.S. institution.

Step 1: Submit Application
Please download the file and complete the Application Form. You do not need to print it, you can type directly into the document.

Step 2: Submit Required Documents

  • A copy of valid passport
  • A copy of visa
  • A high school or university diploma/transcript
  • A bank statement dated within the past six months showing the following minimum balance:
    $28,000 for applicants to the ESL program
    $31,000 for applicants to the Associate Degree program
    If you have dependents (spouse or children), an additional $5,000 per dependent must be shown in the bank statement.
    If the bank account is not in the applicant’s name, a signed Affidavit of Support from the account holder must also be submitted.
  • A copy of the most recent I-20 from the current or previous U.S. institution.

Step 3: Application Fee
Pay a non-refundable $100 application fee.

Step 4: CaMLA English Test
Students are required to take the CaMLA English placement test after paying the application fee.
Students who have completed at least one year of major study at a U.S. college or have graduated from a U.S. institution are exempt from this requirement.

Step 5: Acceptance Letter Issuance
Once the documents have been reviewed and approved, Columbia College will issue the Acceptance Letter to the student.

Step 6: Submit Transfer Request
Students must submit the Acceptance Letter and Transfer Eligibility Form to their current school and request the release of their SEVIS record to Columbia College.

Step 7: Release of SEVIS Record
The current school will complete Part B of the Transfer Eligibility Form, return it to Columbia College, and release the SEVIS record to the college.

Step 8: Tuition

Once the SEVIS record has been released to Columbia College, students are required to pay tuition for 10 weeks along with the $200 International Student Service Fee.

Step 9: I-20 Issuance

Once tuition payment is received, Columbia College will issue an I-20 to the student.

Step 10: Orientation

All new students are required to attend both the program orientation and the F-1 international student orientation.
