This summer ESL students are engaged in a special program. Do you wonder what they are doing? On the first week, students learned about formal dinner table manners and ways to set up a table properly, and students and teachers showed their special recipes and brought their food to share. During the recess, we had an award ceremony for the winners of Folklife Festival Field Trip Essay Contest. The winners deserved to boast of their writing skills that they have sharpened at Columbia College. All other students, teachers, and staff members got together in front of the reception desk to congratulate those who were awarded, giving them a big round of applause. Many ESL students from Fairfax Campus and Silver Spring Extension have been to the Folklife Festival held in Washington D.C. Notwithstanding hot weather and a thunder storming warning, every participant enjoyed the day of exploration and excitement displayed and performed by those who represented Kenya and China.
ESL students will go on a field trip to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on July 3rd, 2014. The Festival is held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between the Smithsonian museums. At the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, you will find many exemplary practitioners of diverse, authentic, living traditions-both old and new. The goal of the Festival is to strengthen and preserve these traditions by presenting them on the National Mall. College Fair was held in Fairfax Campus auditorium on June 24. We had a big turn out of students who learned about many academic programs offered at Columbia College. There were hot dogs and refreshments and well as a raffle drawing for prizes!

Columbia College will have a college fair on June 24th in the auditorium of Fairfax Campus in order to show appreciation for our students, to introduce our degree programs to the students, and to inspire all the students and staff members to have school pride.
