Language Study Program: Daegu Health College On July 9th, ten students from Daegu Health College in Korea are participating in the orientation at Columbia College. For three weeks, they will be in part of our ESL program and engage in classroom learning. They will also deepen the appreciation of the history and society of America and develop vocational and practical English expressions. In addition, they will enjoy cultural activities such as sightseeing trips and visits to nearby places of historic sites on weekends during their stay.

Field Trip to DC Folklife Festival on June 27th

ESL students will go on a field trip to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on June 27th, 2013.  The Festival is held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between the Smithsonian museums. At the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, you will find many exemplary practitioners of diverse, authentic, living traditions—both old and new. The goal of the Festival is to strengthen and preserve these traditions by presenting them on the National Mall. Tradition-bearers and the public can connect with and learn from one another and, in a respectful way, begin to understand cultural differences and similarities. Columbia College students attended Embassy Chef Challenge

Columbia College joined cultural tourism DC for the 4th Annual Embassy Chef Challenge The 4th Embassy Chef Challenge was held in Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington DC on March 8, 2012. Representing countries from around the world, more than a dozen chefs from Washington DC embassies competed in this competition. Columbia College joined the sponsorship, and provided student assistants. Selected from our culinary arts department, Bokyung Goo, Junbum Seo, Min Song, and Hyerim Park participated in the Embassy Chef Challenge as assistants, and introduced traditional Korean cuisine.

DC Cherry Blossom Festival: March 20 – April 27

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Washington DC Cherry Blossom Festival. The epic 5-week spectacular, from March 20 – April 27, 2012, will unify and electrify the city, the nation, and the world. Washington, DC and the region will be abuzz with excitement. Columbia College students will go to the festival on March 20th ~ March 27th (Main Campus: March 21th, 22th, and 27th, Centreville Campus: 22th, Maryland Campus: 20th) This trip will be an EDUCATIONAL trip. It will involve the teachers, who will educate their class on what the Cherry Blossom Festival is, and provide a related assignment.
